The Journey of Nuhifehteyzz

During the challenging days of the COVID-19 pandemic, a group of teenagers on the island of Kaashidhoo found a way to turn boredom into something extraordinary. What started as a casual squad of boys meeting up to play online games and brainstorm future plans evolved into something much greater.

As days passed, more boys joined the group, and what was once a casual gathering transformed into a futsal team. The team, now large enough to play regularly, embraced the name "Nuhifehteyzz" and started playing futsal passionately. It wasn’t long before the squad became a recognized team on the island, but their aspirations went far beyond just sports.

A Bigger Purpose

Though they enjoyed the camaraderie of playing futsal, the boys had a greater dream: to bring meaningful change to their island and its community. They started small, engaging in community service projects during their free time. What once felt like mundane, boring days became productive and fulfilling.

In the Eid of 2023, Nuhifehteyzz gained island-wide recognition when they participated in the Kaashidhoo Council Football Challenge. While they didn’t win the tournament, their enthusiasm, teamwork, and efforts caught the attention of many. However, fame wasn’t their goal—they were focused on something much more significant. They dreamed of improving lives, fostering development, and making a real difference on the island.

Facing Challenges and Staying Resilient

Despite their ambitions, the journey was not easy. After their early exit from the tournament, the team faced criticism and discouraging comments from people who should have supported them. But instead of giving up, the boys used these challenges as motivation. “Next year,” they told themselves. “One day, we can and we will.”

As time went on, life pulled the team members in different directions. Graduating from school meant many had to leave Kaashidhoo for higher studies or work opportunities in Malé. The once tight-knit group began to drift apart, and their dream seemed harder to achieve.

A New Beginning

But even in their separation, the dream of Nuhifehteyzz lived on. In November 2023, during a Friday coffee meet-up, the idea of registering the team as an official NGO or sports club was brought up. While most dismissed it as idle talk, a few members took it seriously and began working to turn this idea into reality.

They remembered the original inspiration for playing in tournaments—the legacy of Seven Stars (SS), a club founded by their fathers. Determined to honor their roots, they met with the heads of Seven Stars for guidance. To their surprise, they discovered an existing NGO called SKY, which was inactive but held potential.

The Dream Lives On

Nuhifehteyzz has now evolved from a group of teenagers roaming the island into a movement fueled by hope, hard work, and the desire to uplift their community. While life may have scattered the original members, their shared vision keeps them connected.

Their story is not just about sports or forming a team, it’s about resilience, unity, and the belief that even the smallest actions can lead to meaningful change. For Nuhifehteyzz, the dream of developing Kaashidhoo and improving lives remains alive, and their journey is far from over.
